The British Insurance Law Association BILA was established in 1964. That year also saw the publication of the first BILA Bulletin, later renamed the BILA Journal, the official journal of the Association.

To mark the Association's 40th Anniversary, the BILA Charitable Trustees have launched the "BILA Journal Online", a project to make available in electronic format via this website, all of the back issues of the BILA Journal. The result is this website, a fully searchable archive of the Journals since 1964 (although there are currently some missing Journals, the Association is appealing to its membership and others to assist with locating these). For the first time, the current issue of the BILA Journal will also be available online and will be fully searchable.

This project provides a unique insight into work of the members of BILA over the last 40 years, charting developments in insurance law, and the involvement of BILA's members in that process. British insurance law continues to evolve at a pace that would have surprised many observers in 1964, and the BILA Journal is at the forefront of publishing comment and research from the recognised experts in this field. This project will also provide an invaluable research tool for anyone interested in developments in insurance law, past and present.
